Who Is CARE Honduras?

CARE International has been working in Honduras since 1954 — over 70 years of showing up for communities in need. What started as emergency relief after tropical storms has grown into one of the most comprehensive humanitarian and development programs in Central America.

Today, CARE Honduras works at the root causes of poverty and inequality. Their mission isn't just to respond to crises. It's to make sure women and girls have the voice, resources, and opportunities to build futures they deserve.

In 2025 alone, CARE Honduras reached over 166,000 people directly — and 75% of them were women and girls.

What They're Doing on the Ground

CARE Honduras focuses on three core areas: prosperous and resilient communities, safe and dignified lives for women and girls, and humanitarian crisis response. Here's what that looks like in practice:

Making the Economy Work for Women CARE works with rural, Indigenous, and urban communities to create real economic opportunities — employment, entrepreneurship, and income-generating programs designed specifically for women and young people who have historically been locked out.

Food and Water Access Basic needs shouldn't be a privilege. CARE works alongside communities to improve access to food and water, strengthening local food systems so families aren't one crisis away from going without.

Climate Resilience Honduras is on the frontlines of climate change. CARE helps communities adapt, protect their livelihoods, and build long-term resilience against worsening storms, drought, and displacement.

Ending Gender-Based Violence CARE fights violence against women and girls while building systems that support women's leadership — from the community level all the way to national advocacy.

Emergency Response When disasters strike, CARE is there. And critically, they make sure women lead in emergency response.

Why Women Are at the Center of Everything

CARE Honduras doesn't treat women as beneficiaries. They treat them as leaders.

They partner with women-led and women-majority organizations at every level — community, city, national — to build lasting capacity. Women who participate in CARE programs aren't just helped; they're equipped to drive change for their families and entire communities long after a program ends.

Why Brittie Cares Chose CARE Honduras

Beauty Beyond Barriers isn't just our tagline. It's the lens through which we look at everything.

We spend every day thinking about what it means to break down barriers — the ones in skin, the ones in access, the ones in opportunity. CARE Honduras is doing the same work, just on a much larger scale and in places where the barriers are life-defining.

Barriers to clean water. Barriers to economic independence. Barriers to safety. Barriers to having a voice.

These aren't abstract problems. They're the daily reality for hundreds of thousands of women in Honduras. And CARE Honduras has spent over seven decades showing up to dismantle them — one program, one partnership, one woman at a time.
