Who Is CAMFED?

CAMFED, the Campaign for Female Education, is an international nonprofit dedicated to helping girls access education and young women build independent futures.

Founded in 1993, CAMFED works with communities across Africa to address the poverty and inequality that keep girls out of school. Their work extends beyond the classroom, supporting girls as they learn, grow, and become leaders in their communities. 

What They’re Doing Every Day

Getting an education requires more than a place in a classroom. CAMFED helps address the everyday challenges that can prevent girls from attending school and completing their education. Here’s what that looks like:

Access to Education

Support for school fees, uniforms, books, and supplies helps remove the financial barriers that keep girls from learning.

Mentorship & Support

Teacher mentors and young women educated with CAMFED’s support provide guidance, encouragement, and a community girls can turn to.

Everyday Essentials

Depending on each student’s needs, support can include menstrual products, boarding fees, or a bicycle to make the journey to school more manageable.

Life Beyond School

CAMFED helps young women transition into adulthood with financial education, business training, and support to pursue employment or further education.

The Impact They’ve Made

By the end of 2025, CAMFED and its wider movement had supported more than 9.3 million children to go to school.

This includes support through donor-funded programs, women educated with CAMFED’s support, and local community members. Many graduates become mentors and use their own resources to help other children attend school, extending the opportunity they received to the next generation.
